BBC TV’s Great British Menu judge Matthew Fort has been appointed as the first ever food curator at St Pancras International railway station.

In the role, created especially for Fort, he will work closely with St Pancras International’s owners HS1 to expand the food and drink offering at the station.

Wendy Spinks, commercial director at HS1, said he would bring over 20 years of culinary knowledge to the station both from a consumer and business point of view.

“We are always looking for new and exciting ways to make sure that our retail offering continues to exceed consumer’s expectations,” she said. “His expertise and passion will provide valuable support so we are delighted to welcome him on board.”

Drive and passion

His drive to try something new and passion for British talent would further develop the food proposition at the station, she added.

St Pancras International has over 24 food retailers including Carluccio’s, Fortnum & Mason, Pret A Manger, Costa Coffee, Yo! Sushi, Marks & Spencer and the Fine Burger Company.

Fort said the station offered consumers to chance to get their hands on a vast selection of products.

“For me there is no better way to start a journey than sipping on a coffee with a sandwich or a delicious slice of cake while watching people walk by,” he added.

“I’m excited to start working with the retailers to showcase the amazing food that is available at commuter’s fingertips whether it’s a panini for a trip to Paris or a cupcake for the journey home to Corby.”
