The retailer has withdrawn its Tesco Finest Mozzarella Pearls & Pesto Orzo Salad 215g because of a possible contamination with the bacteria.
All 215g packs of the product with best-before dates of 25, 26 and 27 August 2026 are affected by the recall.
The UK-wide action is a precautionary measure because of possible contamination with STEC in the listed batches.
Symptoms caused by STEC can include severe diarrhoea, including bloody diarrhoea, abdominal pain and, occasionally, haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.
If customers experience these symptoms, they should stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours to avoid passing the infection to others.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “No other Tesco products are affected by this recall. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
Affected customers are advised not to consume any of the listed products and should instead return them to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required.
This latest incident marks the third STEC-related recall in the UK this month, with products from A.Vogel and Summit Foods also impacted.
