The Welsh specialist ingredients supplier has announced ‘significant’ expansion plans following a record-breaking financial performance for FY25.

Middledale Foods plans to invest £600K into the business over the next three years as it looks to expand.

Funded through reinvested profit, the money will go towards new technology, systems and infrastructure that enable it to remain “agile, responsive and well-positioned to support the evolving needs of the food manufacturing sector”.

This will include continued investment into quality management systems, customer service and CRM platforms, together with the implementation of a new integrated stock management, pricing and contract management platform.

Middledale Foods told Food Manufacture that the aim is to enhance visibility across customer, product and supply chain activity, strengthen account management capabilities, and improve operational efficiency and customer service.

The plans will open up a number of new roles across the business, including customer service, marketing, sales and business development. Middledale also confirmed that the investment will go towards the training and development of its existing team, with a view to create “clear pathways for progression”.

Headquartered in Chirk, North Wales, Middledale Foods is also anticipating the expansion of its HQ as part of this long-term growth strategy, with “a number of options currently under consideration”.

The move follows a landmark year for the ingredients firm which reported a £31.2 million turnover in its 2025 financial results. These represent a historical high for the business and build on a sustained period of commercial growth, during which turnover has more than doubled and EBITDA increased by 133% over the last three years (FY22-FY25), decisively exceeding previous targets.

“Growth has been driven by strong customer retention, the development of new customer relationships, an expanding product portfolio and continued investment in identifying new ingredients and applications that support our customers’ growth plans,” a spokesperson from Middledale Foods said.

“This has been supported by continued investment in our people, systems and governance, creating a platform for sustainable growth while preserving the service, agility and trusted relationships that remain at the heart of the business.”

Middledale Foods is now targeting turnover of £52m and EBIT of £1.5m by FY28.

The news of its expansion comes as the business celebrates its 30th anniversary, having been founded by Nigel Salsbury in 1996 as a supplier of short shelf-life dairy ingredients.

Since then, the business has become a multi-category ingredients partner, providing a portfolio if dairy, egg, plant-based and functional ingredients.
