Beef and lamb processor ABP has acquired a minority stake in Dovecote Park, Waitrose’s exclusive beef, veal and venison supplier.

The move follows the departure of co-owner and director Amanda Buitelaar, who relinquished her stake in Extra Detail Ltd, Dovecote Park’s parent company, to ABP.

Buitelaar owned a 25% stake in the North Yorkshire-based business and spent 25 years with the company before leaving in April.

The two other directors and co-owners, chairman David Gunner and chief executive Richard Canvin, will continue to oversee Dovecote Park independently. They were joined on the board by ABP director Tom Kirwan in June.

Kirwan has served as managing director of Ireland-based ABP’s UK and Ireland business for 10 years and joined the group’s board in 2020.

According to our sister publication The Grocer, the transaction was completed through the buyout of Buitelaar’s holding company, Benoni Corporation.

ABP has so far declined to comment on the acquisition.

“The acquisition of Benoni represents a long-term strategic investment for the ABP Group,” said a spokeswoman for Dovecote Park.

“Benoni, as a minority shareholder, will be supportive of the group’s strategic direction, whilst maintaining the policy of acknowledging the current board and management team’s independent ability and authority to grow and develop the Dovecote Park business.”
