After much hard deliberation from the judges, it was decided that Jodie Adcock, a line leader at Thorntons’ Derbyshire chocolate factory, should be the first winner of the Young Talent of the Year Award.
“It feels amazing, I never thought anything like this would happen to me” she said. “I didn’t even know I had been put forward for it until I was shortlisted as a finalist.”
Thorntons’ locality and its good reputation drew Adcock to the chocolate-maker, she said. “I just started out on basic jobs, like washing trays from the line at first.”
Quickly, her hard work and talent was recognised and Adcock was promoted to a line leader at the site last year.
'I'm a quick learner'
“They noticed that I am a quick learner and it doesn’t take me long to work things out,” she said.
“I like being busy, which is good because I’m very busy as a line leader – it’s not just a job where you’re sat doing nothing or the same thing all day long.
“Each day is different and there are lots of different things going on.”
Although she has only been a line leader for a year, Adcock said she aspired to work her way into management one day soon.
And, despite the lack of managerial positions that become available, “I will go for it and I will be working towards it until one does become available.”
