Wal-Mart appoints new president and ceo
Wal-Mart promoted the president and ceo of its Europe, Middle East and Africa and Canada region David Cheesewright to the role of president and ceo of Wal-Mart International this month.
Wal-Mart International is the company’s second largest operating segment.
Cheesewright joined Asda in 1999 at Asda, where he held leadership positions in operations, merchandising, logistics, strategy and format development. Asda was acquired by Wal-Mart in 1999.
He said: “Our success is dependent on our associates, and I’m committed to investing in them. Together, we will find innovative and sustainable ways to serve our customers and provide them with the quality, affordable products they expect from us.”
Wal-Mart president and ceo Doug McMillon said Cheesewright was the ideal person to lead the business into its next chapter of long-term growth and to drive change that would improve the world.
