As first reported by The Grocer, the vast majority of the wholesaler’s 27 employees have been made redundant with immediate effect.
A small number of workers have been retained on a short-term basis to assist administrators BDO, who have been appointed to oversee the business.
Amber Beverage UK distributed brands including Latvian Cross Keys Gin, Mexican Rooster Rojo Tequila, Irish whiskeys Writers’ Tears and The Irishman, and Russian Moskovskaya Vodka to retailers and wholesalers across Britain.
The company was previously known as Cellar Trends before being acquired by Luxembourg-based spirits firm Amber Beverage Group in 2018.
Danny Dartnaill and Tim Townley, of BDO, were appointed joint administrators of Amber Beverage UK Ltd on 19 October 2026.
A short statement issued by BDO to The Grocer did not provide any further details about the reasons for the company’s collapse.
“Prior to the appointment of administrators, efforts were made to sell the business as a going concern, but this proved not to be possible.”
Parent company Amber Beverage Group is undergoing judicial reorganisation in its native Luxembourg after defaulting on a loan earlier this year.
Its UK arm saw revenues fall by 26% (£13.6 million) to £39.5 million in the year to 31 December 2024. The company has yet to file accounts for 2025.
