The meat processor has finished a major update at its Cambridgeshire poultry farm, which will increase capacity and introduce new facilities designed to improve operations.

Pilgrim’s Europe has completed a £6 million-plus transformation of its Cambridgeshire site, Potton Farm.

The move represents a major investment into its UK and wider operations, with Potton’s Farm playing a key role in supplying chicken products for Pilgrim’s domestic and export markets.

The update sees Potton’s capacity increased through the more effective use of the farm’s existing footprint and the installation of improved tools.

The refurbishment has seen the existing timber-framed poultry sheds replaced with five larger steel-framed, clear-span, modern buildings. A redesigned site layout has also improved access and movement around the farm, providing modern facilities for colleagues and helping the site operate more efficiently.

New ventilation and misting systems have been installed alongside the latest feeding technologies, too. Pilgrim’s says this means teams will be able to better control conditions within the buildings and help the farm maintain its “consistently high standards of animal welfare and performance”.

“Potton Farm is an important part of our poultry operations, and this investment represents a significant commitment to the long-term future of the site and to poultry production in the region,” said Aaron McKenna, head of broiler operations UK at Pilgrim’s Europe.

“The transformation of the site provides our teams with modern facilities that will support the farm for years to come, enabling us to continue delivering high standards of bird welfare, operating as efficiently as possible and providing the best service to our customers.”
