2 Sisters Food Group’s Sandycroft site in North Wales is one of the biggest facilities in the Birmingham-based firm’s UK network.
The facility processes, cuts and packs poultry products, which it supplies to the UK’s largest supermarkets, as well as restaurant chains including Nando’s and KFC.
As part of its application to Natural Resources Wales (NRW), the factory is seeking permission to expand its operations and process an additional 38,000 chickens a day, as well as operate seven days a week.
If approved, the changes would increase the total number of chickens processed at the facility each day from 134,000 to 172,000.
The application also includes more routine requests, including permission to operate a chiller that has been installed to replace the previous unit.
In response to the application, NRW has launched a consultation period running from 10 September to 8 October 2026, during which members of the public can view the application documents and submit comments online.
All relevant representations received during the consultation period, NRW says, will be considered as part of its assessment of 2 Sisters’ proposals.
Rhys Ellis, team leader for industry and waste regulation at NRW, said: “We are committed to ensuring that environmental permit applications are assessed thoroughly and transparently.
“This consultation provides an opportunity for local communities and other interested parties to review the application submitted by 2 Sisters Food Group Limited and share any relevant comments.”
He continued: “We will carefully consider all information available to us, including consultation responses, before reaching a decision on the permit variation application.”
