A.Vogel is recalling its Rapunzel bioSnacky Das Original Red Clover Seeds for Sprouts and Seedlings after Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) was found in the product.

The Swiss producer of natural remedies, herbal medicines and health foods has withdrawn the product from sale in England, Wales and Scotland.

The recall applies to all 30g packs of the product with batch code 11293 and a best-before date of December 2028.

A.Vogel said it had withdrawn the product after it was found to contain Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC).

Symptoms of E. coli infection can include severe diarrhoea, including bloody diarrhoea, abdominal pain and, in some cases, haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and may be fatal.

Customers experiencing these symptoms are advised to stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours to avoid passing the infection to others.

In its customer notice, A.Vogel asked anyone who purchased the affected batch to return it to their local specialist retailer or dispose of it at home.

Any sprouts grown from the seeds should also be disposed of. Customers will be offered a full refund.

The company said no other products are affected by the recall, adding: “We are very sorry for this incident and sincerely apologise.

“Please be assured that we are doing everything we possibly can to resolve this matter. We hope that you will continue to place your trust in us.”
