A Japanese firm, Maruzen Pharmaceuticals, has filed a patent for a skin-whitening agent to be used in food and beverage products.
According to the patent, which appeared on the European Patent Office's website, the agent which has "excellent skin-whitening effects" includes: an extract of fermented leucaena (Leucaena leucocephala), an extract of fermented guava (Psidium guajava) and an extract of fermented Curcuma longa.
The firm that filed the patent specialises in researching the benefits of botanicals.
