Healthy snacks replace meals
Millennial consumers, healthy snacks and meal replacement were among the snacking trends highlighted in presentation by Nielsen at FiE earlier this month.
Nielsen vice president Mark Gillespie said millennials were expected to become the biggest generational cohort in terms of their retail spend in 10 years’ time.
“They have a need for meal solutions, or nutritional solutions, that also satisfy their on-the-go need,” Gillespie said. “They are willing to pay a premium when they see the health benefits.”
He said the younger generation tended to opt for on-the-go snacks or meals at fast casual restaurants, which offer freshly prepared and high quality food.
