FSA appoints new chief scientific advisor
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) appointed Guy Poppy as its new chief scientific advisor, this month.
Poppy, who is professor of ecology and director of interdisciplinary research at the University of Southampton, will start the role in August.
As well as providing expert scientific advice and challenge to the FSA, he will work with the Scientific Advisory Committees, ensuring they continued to give sound independent scientific advice to the FSA, it claimed.
Poppy said: “I can’t think of anything more important that ensuring food safety and standards. Food is essential for human wellbeing and the increasingly complex food system brings benefits and risks to our daily lives.”
FSA ceo Catherine Brown said he would bring “flair and a wealth of relevant experience” to the role.
