Greencore has withdrawn five products currently sold in Tesco and M&S because Salmonella has potentially been found in pistachio nuts used as an ingredient in the products.
The items recalled include all 400g packs of Pinch Pan Poppin’ Chicken Pasanda & Nutty Pilau Rice, with all use-by dates up to 10 October and product code 5051873005819, as well as all 400g packs of Pinch Bangin’ Butter Chicken & Nutty Pilau Rice, with all use-by dates up to 10 October and product code 5051873005796. Both items are widely available across Tesco stores.
Three M&S-branded products manufactured by Greencore have also been pulled, including all 200g packs of the M&S Super Nutty Wholefood with a Soy & Ginger Dressing, with all use-by dates up to 10 October and product code 00797016; all 285g packs of the M&S Nutrient Dense Nutty Super Wholefood, with all use-by dates up to 11 October and product code 00961035; and all 115g packs of the M&S Fresh Collection Pistachio Pesto, with all use-by dates up to 13 October and product code 29526743.
Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises affected customers experiencing these symptoms to stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours to avoid passing the infection on to others.
In a customer notice, M&S said: “In the abundance of caution, Greencore is recalling some pistachio products due to the possible presence of Salmonella.
“Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take food safety extremely seriously.”
In its own notice, Pinch also confirmed the recall and apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers.
Affected shoppers can return their Pinch and M&S products to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given, with no receipt required.
