A Latin American-inspired seasonings and meal kits brand is recalling one of its salsa products because of undeclared barley (gluten) and mustard.

Lancashire-based Capsicana has withdrawn its Easy Going Mild Salsa because the product contains barley (gluten) and mustard that are not declared on the label.

This makes the product a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard and/or an allergy or intolerance to barley or gluten, or with coeliac disease.

As part of its recall, the firm is recalling 285g packs of its Easy Going Mild Salsa with the batch code 6091 and a best-before date of May 2027.

In its customer notice, Capsicana said it was pulling the product, which is sold via Co-op stores across the UK, due to “this batch containing incorrect product, leading to unlabelled allergens.”

The brand confirmed that these allergens were mustard and barley, and added that no other Capsicana products are affected.

Customers with an allergy to barley and/or mustard should not consume the product, but should instead return it to the store from which it was purchased for a full refund, with no receipt required.
