A drink has been recalled from UK shelves as it contains a common allergen that isn’t mentioned on the label.

Sunrise International Foods Ltd has recalled its Shama Falooda Almond flavour drink because it contains milk which isn’t mentioned on the product’s labelling.

The Essex‑based wholesaler has recalled all current batches of the 290ml beverage, with all date codes affected, as they pose a health risk to anyone with an allergy to milk, or an intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

Falooda is a traditional Central and South Asian drink, often containing milk, vermicelli and sweet basil as key ingredients.

In its recall notice, the firm has asked affected customers not to consume the product, but instead to return it to the store where they bought it for a full refund, with no receipt required.

Sunrise International Foods Ltd acts as the UK branch of French‑Pakistani ethnic food producer Shama International, which manufactures several varieties of Asian beverages, as well as rice, spices, sauces and pastes, flours and lentils, dried fruits, oils and a selection of frozen goods.

Headquartered in the Paris region, the business also supplies Asian products to the Italian market, operating out of Macerata in the east of the country.
