An Italian olive oil brand has recalled its Hot Chilli Pesto due to a labelling mishap.

Filippo Berio has recalled 190g jars of its Hot Chilli Pesto due to an undeclared allergen.

The affected product, which has a batch code of LR319 and a best before date of 15 May 2028, contains fish which is not mentioned on the label.

This poses a possible health concern to anyone with an allergy to fish.

The company has issued a point-of-sale notice, which explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought it.

In its notice, Filippo Berio UK said: “We are recalling Filippo Berio Hot Chilli Pesto 190g due to undeclared fish on the back of the product.

“If you have bought Filippo Berio Hot Chilli Pesto 190g as detailed above, and you have an allergy to fish, do not eat it. Check if you have bought the affected batch code LR319 with a best before date of 15 May 2028.

“You can do this by taking a picture of this notice or writing down the batch code and best before date for reference at home. Return the product to the store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.”

People who have purchased the product and have an allergy to fish are advised not to consume it, and to return it to the store from which it was bought for a full refund.

Filippo Berio UK’s products are sold in all major supermarkets. Alongside its flagship olive oil range, the company also sells a variety of vinegars and pesto products.
