Baby milk, food and care brand HiPP Organic UK has recalled its 7+ months Vegetable Lasagne 190g jar due to a labelling error.

The fault in question concerns a lack of emphasis on celeriac (celery), a key ingredient within the firm’s lasagne recipe.

In the UK, celery is one of 14 allergens that must be labelled in bold text as part of any food product’s ingredients list.

In the case of HiPP Organic UK’s 7+ months Vegetable Lasagne 190g jars, celeriac was included within the ingredients list, but was not formatted in bold text, in direct breach of allergen labelling rules.

As such, the product has been recalled as it poses a risk to anyone with an allergy to celery. The recall only concerns 190g jars with the batch code B49311, with a best before date of 31 January 2027. At this stage, no other HiPP Organic UK products are known to be affected.

As part of its recall, the German brand has also contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, while point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling the product.

The notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have purchased it.

In a statement, the brand said: “We are recalling our 7+ months Vegetable Lasagne jar due to a labelling error which occurred during the latest artwork print refresh. The allergen celeriac has not been highlighted in bold on the ingredients list, which makes it a possible health risk to babies with an allergy to celeriac.

“If you have bought the above product and your baby has an allergy to celery, do not eat it. Instead, contact HiPP Organic’s customer services team on 0800 298 4477 or at hello@hipp.co.uk for reimbursement or further information.”
