Independent flavour company, I.T.S, has announced plans for a major expansion as it looks to build one of the UK’s largest natural flavour manufacturing sites.

The flavour house has purchased an 8.2-acre industrial estate, located west of Newbury close to Hungerford.

I.T.S’s new site will include a full redevelopment of the existing factory along with extension and update of the offices. An initial £10 million has been invested into the site and its development.

The facility will provide x20 more production capacity across liquid and powdered flavours than I.T.S’s existing site in Newbury as well as scalable production of extracts and compounds.

The size of the Hungerford site also means there is opportunity for future extensions as the business grows further, with I.T.S currently growing around 35% year-on-year.

The business currently employs 40 people and supplies natural flavours throughout the food and beverage industries across its two sites in Newbury. The second site on Abex Road was recently added, seeing the business’s operations divided into an innovation centre that houses the flavour sample bays and application spaces, and its neighbouring site for manufacturing, technical and customer services.

This latest move will see the company expanding its workforce, with new roles earmarked for the Swindon, Marlborough, Hungerford and Newbury areas.

Commenting on the news, Mike Bagshaw, founder of I.T.S, said: “This investment is a major step forward for I.T.S which began at a kitchen table 16 years ago. My mantra has always to be ‘brave’, scale big, have fun and stay independent. Our goal is to become the world’s most-loved flavour house, delivering exceptional flavours and service to our customers. We have a fabulous team, all of whom are essential to how we run the business and our future success. These are exciting times!”
