Importance of collaboration stressed at Food Safety Conference

Collaboration was the key take-home message from this year’s Food Safety Conference, according to Campden BRI director general Steven Walker.

In this exclusive video interview – filmed at the conference held at Maple House in Birmingham – Walker, who also chaired the day’s proceedings, called on food and drink manufacturers to work together to solve the issues surrounding food safety.

“We cannot solve it alone,” said Walker. “I think today is important to help us all to recognise that everybody present is working towards the same agenda.

No one has all the answers

No single company or individual has all the answers, so how do we work together, look at the solutions, identify the opportunities and link together with our information?”

Walker urged delegates not to take their eyes off the ball when it came to food safety. It was important to understand what was happening in the external landscape in order to be prepared for possible issues as opposed to simply reacting to them, he said.

Other issues brought up during the day included the looming threat of Brexit and the continued uncertainty it brings, through to high-tech solutions presented.

Entitled ‘A focus on future law and threats’, Food Manufacture’s Food Safety Conference 2018 was held at etc.venues Maple House, Birmingham. It was sponsored by AIB International, Pal International, and Westgate Factory Dividers.
