Senior food and drink manufacturing executives are preparing for the Business Leaders’ Forum (BLF) in central London tomorrow (January 20). The event – staged by the Food Manufacture Group – is a morning seminar for the sector’s leaders to discuss the topics directly impacting the profitability of their manufacturing business.

The range of the debate is dictated by the delegates but topics under discussion are likely to be: the impact of the retail crisis on food and drink suppliers, key mergers and acquisitions affecting the sector and plans to tax or restrict the advertising of foods high in fat, sugar and salt.

Big rise in food and drink exports

Host sponsor law firm DWF will provide a short presentation on how the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership could open the way for a big rise in food and drink exports to the US and Canada. The trade talks were described as 'a win-win opportunity' for food manufacturers and the consumer by the Food and Drink Federation last week.

Now in its ninth year, the event is chaired by Paul Wilkinson, who has a distinguished record over many years on the boards of various well-known UK food companies including, at present, Thorntons. He is also the chairman of the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink.

In addition to DWF, the event is sponsored by Lloyds Bank and food testing company ALcontrol Laboratories.

The free-to-attend half-day event is open to senior executives in food and drink manufacturing firms. For more information, email Felicite.Burke@wrbm.com.

Watch out later this week for video news, views and analysis from the event, which will be conducted under strict Chatham House rules.
