Retailers Waitrose, Co-op and Marks & Spencer have all announced product recalls over the past week.

Waitrose recalls olives because they may contain pieces of glass

Waitrose has recalled its ‘Waitrose Pitted Spanish Queen Olives’ because they may contain pieces of glass which would make the product unsafe to eat.

The recalled own brand olives are sold in 113g pack and have a best before date of December 2025.

As a result, Waitrose has issued a recall notice to its customers which explains why the product is being recalled and instructs them to package up the item and return it to their local Waitrose store for a refund.

Consumers have also been advised that they can contact the Waitrose customer care team on 0800 188 884, Option 4, for more information.

“We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused,”​ the notice added.

Co-op announces recall of picnic platter due to labelling error

Co-op has announced a recall of ‘Coop 20* Piece Picnic Platter’ because the product contains sulphites which are not mentioned on the label.

As a result, the pack poses a health risk to anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.

The picnic platter is sold in 228g packs and the recalled line has a use by date of 21 April 2024.

Co-op has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall, while point-of-sale notices have been issued to inform customers about the recall.

Anyone that bought the product and has a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites should not eat it and instead return it to the store they bought it for a full refund or call Co-op Customer Careline on 0800 0686 727.

Marks & Spencer recalls plant-based mushroom pie

Marks & Spencer is recalling its ‘M&S Plant Kitchen Mushroom Pie’ because it contains soya that is not mentioned on the label, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.

Sold in a 200g pack, pies with a use by date of 12 April 2024, 16 April 2024, 18 April 2024 or 22 April 2024 and a barcode of 0360944 have been recalled.

Marks & Spencer has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, and has already issued point-of-sale notice to its customers.

Anyone that bought the product and has a soya allergy or intolerance should not eat it and instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information contact Marks & Spencer customer care on 0333 0148 555.

In other news, a mushroom producer has been fined £73,333 after an employee’s leg became trapped in a machine and was later amputated.
