Premium water brand Wenlock Spring has hired industry veteran Alan Souter as its new national account manager.

Prior to joining Wenlock, Souter spent the past 10 years as national sales manager for Harrogate Spring Water. He has held similar roles across the drinks industry during his more than 30 year-long career, serving with HP Bulmers, Pago Fruit Juices and Frobishers Fruit Juices.

Commenting on his appointment, Souter said: “Joining Wenlock Spring means that I become part of a well-established, family-owned business with solid ethics coupled with a true passion for customer service. Customer service and consistent supply is at the heart of Wenlock Spring.

Improving visibility within foodservice

“It will also give me the opportunity to support the team in improving the availability and visibility of the whole Wenlock Spring range, especially within the foodservice sector. I have decades of experience in building brands of scale across all channels and can’t wait to get going.”

Souter will be responsible for managing the company’s existing foodservice wholesale customers as well as create new sales opportunities in the sector.

Wenlock Springs director Matthew Orme added: “We are delighted to welcome Alan to our team and, with all his experience in the industry, I am sure he will prove to be a fantastic asset to the business.

Active relationships

“Alan already has impressive active relationships in the foodservice sector and is someone who is passionate about delivering strong sales and building new customer relationships. We had a hugely successful 2023 and with big plans already taking shape this year, there has never been a more exciting time to join the company.”

The second-generation family business is based at Wolverton, near Church Stretton, and its water is sourced from a protected historic spring that dates back to 1086, located near the famous Wenlock Edge.

Meanwhile, last week saw 2 Sisters Food Group owner Boparan Holdings appoint Nigel Williams to the role of group chief financial officer.
