Spicing up soups
Soup’s healthy image had long made it a mainstay in supermarkets and shopping baskets and sales were likely to grow next year, according to EHL.
However, manufacturers could build on this reputation by adding new spices and ingredients to create new flavours and expand their appeal.
EHL identified four key blends to “spice up” soup recipes: Japanese style noodle seasoning, paprika, garlic and lemon blend, Jamaican jerk seasoning and Spicy vegetable soup seasoning.
“We’ve seen an increase in spice blends for soup recipes with international twists and expect to see more food manufacturers expand their ranges and become more experimental with blends from across the globe,” said Backhouse.
