Link 51 racking and shelving is helping 3663 First for Foodservice, one of the UK's leading foodservice wholesale distributors, to maximise storage at its newest food distribution facility in Lichfield.

The Lichfield site combines ambient, chilled and cold areas. The Link 51 installation is divided into three areas with approximately two-thirds of the racking space given over to ambient storage. Here, 14 aisles of varying lengths - some running to more than 60m - accommodate bulk pallet storage with shelving underneath into which products are broken down to simplify individual picking procedures.

There is also a separate cold storage area where a similar blend of bulk and picking items are located, and a chilled storage area. Products picked from the three zones are then brought together into a large marshalling area for loading into refrigerated vehicles via 10 loading docks.

The Link 51 design also includes a number of forklift truck access aisles at key points with racking. Bays up to 4m wide are available in selected areas, permitting the storage of up to three pallets per bay beam level.
