Jason’s Sourdough manufacturer Geary’s Bakeries is expanding after securing an eight-figure funding deal with HSBC UK.

The East Midlands-based firm has opened two new production facilities following a period of significant growth, backed by the bank’s investment.

Equipped with two new sourdough production lines, the maker of the viral Jason’s Sourdough brand is now forecasting turnover to increase by more than 70% over the next two years.

Also designed to help meet growing consumer demand, the new site in Glenfield, Leicester, located opposite the original facility that opened in 2018, will serve as a central hub for production, packing and distribution, where sourdough is freshly made, baked and prepared for delivery across the UK.

According to Geary’s, the site will significantly increase output of the Jason’s Sourdough Ciabattin and Boule loaves, more than doubling the company’s production capacity.

The firm said the expansion has created around 350 new roles since 2024, with bakers initially training at Geary’s existing sites before transitioning to the new facility. This brings the company’s total workforce to approximately 960 employees.

Jason Geary, fourth-generation master baker at Geary’s Bakeries, said: “HSBC UK has been a key partner in helping us manage the growth we have seen in the last couple of years in a sustainable way, giving us the confidence and flexibility to invest in our operations, expand capacity and continue delivering the quality our customers expect – making proper bread more accessible to more people.

“Its support is helping us grow at the right pace while building a stronger business for the future.”

Alongside the funding package, Geary’s Bakeries said it has completed a full operational banking switch, appointing HSBC UK as its sole banking partner.

The company said the strengthened relationship will support further investment in the future, including funding for an additional site as the business continues to expand.

“Geary’s Bakeries is a great example of a long-established family business responding to changing consumer demand while staying true to the quality and craftsmanship its reputation was built on,” added Russell Fisher, relationship manager at HSBC UK.

“Rapid growth can create as many challenges as opportunities, particularly in food manufacturing where scaling production without compromising quality is critical. We’re proud to support the business as it invests in the capacity, infrastructure and people needed for its next stage of growth.”
