Poultry group Scandi Standard has bought Irish manufacturer Glenhaven Foods to strengthen its ready-to-eat portfolio.

The Stockholm-based firm has acquired frozen breaded chicken specialist Glenhaven for an enterprise value of €127 million, in a bid to bolster its offering in the ready-to-eat and value-added poultry category.

Scandi Standard says the deal will “significantly expand” its presence across the UK and Ireland, and will support its ambition to become Europe’s “leading chicken company”.

Scandi Standard’s current Irish operations are led by Manor Farm, a Co. Cavan-based business it acquired in 2017.

The acquisition will be made using a mix of cash and an interest-free debt offering totalling around a third of the deal value, due within one year of the deal’s completion.

Operating out of Arklow in Co. Wicklow, Glenhaven supplies a range of retail, foodservice and quick-service restaurant customers across Ireland and the UK, employing approximately 190 people.

Jonas Tunestål, chief executive of Scandi Standard, said: “Glenhaven Foods is an excellent strategic fit for Scandi Standard. The acquisition strengthens our position in value-added and Ready-to-Eat poultry products, expands our presence in Ireland and the UK and brings a highly capable team with a strong track record of profitable growth.

“We are delighted to welcome Glenhaven Foods to our Irish business, led by Manor Farm, and look forward to building on the strong foundations already established.”

Scandi Standard’s portfolio includes a range of ready-to-eat, chilled and frozen products, sold under the Kronfågel, Danpo, Den Stolte Hane and Naapurin Maalaiskana brands.

It currently employs more than 3,600 people and operates across seven European countries: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania and the Netherlands.

The acquisition of Glenhaven Foods is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026 and follows a series of international deals for the firm, which recently purchased manufacturing facilities in the Netherlands and Lithuania.

Barry Cahill, chief executive and co-owner of Glenhaven Foods, added: “My parents, David and Evanne, started Glenhaven Foods more than 40 years ago, and it has been at the heart of our family ever since. Since my sister Emma and I stepped into leadership roles, we’ve been incredibly proud to experience the foundation they built, the customer relationships they developed and the brilliant team that is the bedrock of the business.

“Glenhaven’s success is down to the hard work of our colleagues, our focus on quality, and always putting our customers first. We truly believe Scandi Standard and Manor Farm are the right partners for our next chapter. They bring the scale and ambition to help us grow, while holding onto the family values that make Glenhaven what it is today.”
