Waitrose & Partners has recalled one of its popular bakery products due to the presence of an undeclared allergen

The premium supermarket chain has recalled four‑packs of its Richly Fruited Hot Cross Buns because the product contains barley, which is not declared on the label.

Waitrose has pulled the product because it may pose a risk to anyone who suffers from a barley allergy.

The recall covers all packs of the product with a best before date of 6 June 2026.

In a statement, the supermarket said: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”

In its recall notice, Waitrose has asked customers with a barley allergy not to consume the product, but instead to return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund, with no receipt required.
