Lipton Teas & Infusions has announced former Mars president and chief executive officer, Grant Reid, as its new chair.

Grant Reid will take up his new role with the Amsterdam-based tea and herbal drinks producer with immediate effect, and will work closely with Marc Busain, who joined Lipton as chief executive last October.

Reid joins Lipton Teas & Infusions after a lengthy 34-year stay with Mars, culminating in his elevation to the chief executive and president role, which he held for close to nine years up to January 2023.

Reid first joined Mars as a marketing manager in 1988, before progressing into the boardroom. Prior to his promotion to chief executive, he also worked as global president of Mars Drinks and global president of Mars Chocolate.

“I am delighted to join Lipton as chair at such an exciting time for the company. Lipton is a business with wonderful brands, real heritage, and a place in people’s everyday lives all over the world,” said Reid.

“Businesses like this succeed through creating value for consumers, partners and communities – with purpose and performance going hand in hand. I look forward to working with Marc, the board and the leadership team as Lipton builds its next chapter.”

Over the last three years since his departure from Mars, Reid has sat on the boards of Vanguard and Marriott International, roles he will combine with his position at Lipton Teas & Infusions.

From 2021 to 2024, Reid also chaired the Sustainable Markets Initiative Agribusiness Taskforce at the invitation of King Charles III, convening global business leaders to advance regenerative agriculture.

He has also served on the board of the Consumer Goods Forum, where he co-chaired the Governance Committee and co-led the Forest Positive Initiative.

Busain added: “I am thrilled that someone with the stature and experience of Grant has agreed to become our new chair and I am confident he will be an invaluable support and source of wisdom and challenge for all of us.”
