What is your area of focus/What certifications or qualifications are you working towards?
I’m currently working towards my Level 2 Mechatronic Maintenance Diploma, which covers electrical and mechanical maintenance, pneumatics and fitting. In my second year, I’ll progress to the Level 3 qualification.
What inspired you to pursue an apprenticeship in food manufacturing?
I prefer to learn while working. A hands-on role suits me much better than purely classroom-based learning, so an apprenticeship felt like the right path. A hands‑on role suits me much better than purely classroom‑based learning, so an apprenticeship felt like the right path.
How did you find out about this apprenticeship programme?
I found the apprenticeship advertised on Indeed and applied straight away.
What are some of the key skills you’ve learned so far?
Teamwork and communication have been huge, especially working closely with others in the programme. Technically, I’ve learned a lot in electrical and mechanical maintenance, so much so that I feel like in a few years I could rewire a house!
How has your mentor or trainer supported your growth?
My mentor has been incredible. From day one they’ve made it clear that I’m never on my own, where I need guidance, a second opinion or just reassurance. Even when I feel confident working independently, I know I have someone knowledgeable I can turn to, and that support has really helped me grow and push myself.
What has been the most rewarding part of your apprenticeship?
For me, it’s seeing my skills develop and turning what I’ve learned into something real. I’ve made tools, created a keychain and built items I’ll keep for years. There’s something genuinely rewarding about making something with your own hands and knowing it came from the skills you’re gaining on the job.
Where do you see yourself in five years within the food industry?
In five years, I hope to still be a part of The Compleat Food Group, continuing to build on my engineering skills and growing into a more advanced role. The opportunities here are exciting, and I’d love to keep progressing and contributing to the team.
