Quorn Foods makes two senior leadership appointments as it looks to accelerate international growth.

The announcement sees Phil Thornborrow moving from his role as QuornPro’s director of global foodservice to become president for the US division.

Thornborrow has been part of the Quorn team for nine years, having started his journey at the alternative protein firm as business unit controller in 2017.

During his tenure, he has played a significant role in growing Quorn’s foodservice business, including the creation of its dedicated foodservice arm, QuornPro brand.

His 21 years of leadership experience across both retail and foodservice - including roles at Coca-Cola Enterprises and Kellogg Company - alongside his understanding of Quorn’s supply chain and operational model, puts him in good stead as the business looks to drive transformation, scale and cost control in the US.

“The US represents a significant growth opportunity for Quorn, particularly across Foodservice,” Thornborrow commented.

“I’m excited to take on this role at a pivotal moment for the business and to build on the strong foundations already in place. By combining great-tasting food, operational discipline and close collaboration with our customers, we have a real opportunity to drive the business forward and deliver on our mission to make our nutritious sustainable protein available to all.”

As Thornborrow moves across, new recruit Damian McLoughlin steps into his shoes, bringing with him 30+ years of experience in food. This includes roles at Unilever, Premier Foods and, more recently, Flora Food Group.

During his 6.5 years at Flora, he led the digital transformation of the group across Europe, accelerating execution, strengthening customer understanding and driving disciplined growth.

On his appointment, McLoughlin said: “The opportunity to work at the intersection of taste, nutrition, sustainability and commercial reality is hugely compelling. Foodservice is evolving faster than ever, and there is real potential to unlock truly incremental growth at QuornPro, through practical innovation, customer collaboration and disciplined execution.

“QuornPro is built on strong foundations, with powerful product, nutrition and sustainability stories alongside meaningful early success across key channels. We can now take this to the next level. I believe foodservice can become a true growth engine for Quorn by leveraging our partnerships with some of the world’s leading operators and distributors.”

Chief executive officer, Flochel, added: “These appointments significantly strengthen our leadership team. Phil’s deep experience across retail and foodservice makes him ideally placed to lead our US business into its next phase, while Damian brings outstanding expertise and energy to help unlock the full potential of out-of-home. I would also like to thank Lisa Travis for her service leading our US business over the past three years.”

This senior reshuffle follows Quorn Foods owner Marlow Foods reporting a pre-tax loss of £28 million for 2024. The results generally pre-dated the arrival of its CEO, David Flochel, who joined in late 2024.

Monde Nissin’s latest accounts show its meat alternative arm (Quorn Foods) saw a 1.2% decline in revenue for the first nine months of 2025. Although the third quarter held more promise, with a 2.5% uptick.

Overall, the meat-free market is having a difficult time at the moment, with The Grocer’s Top Products Survey showing the category in decline. Sales dipped by 4.8% and 6.5% in value and volume, respectively. For Quorn its volumes decreased by 3.4.%.
