With eight or more avocados per jar, the product is free from sugar, rapeseed and vegetable oils, and contains no ‘artificial chemicals’.
The clean label mayo, which was the first product to be developed by the ‘ancestrally inspired’ brand back in 2017, and marks Hunter & Gather’s ongoing journey to promote natural foods.
Commenting, Jeff Webster, co-founder of Hunter & Gather, said: “We are passionate about creating tasty, real food products with minimal ingredients, it’s what we are about as a business. So introducing our four-ingredient 100% Avocado Oil Mayonnaise to Waitrose shoppers is a hugely significant step for us.
“UK shoppers are becoming increasingly label savvy and we know they want transparency and ingredients they can trust, as well as delicious food they can enjoy. Adding Waitrose to our list of retail partners means we are achieving momentum with our mission to educate consumers about what constitutes real food and why it’s important, not just to our health but to the planet too. As an award-winning challenger brand we’re proud to be leading that charge as demand grows.”
Year on year growth of Hunter & Gather’s total mayonnaise business in retail is up 95%, with its hero Avocado Oil Mayonnaise experiencing 107% growth in the last 12 months.
“These figures clearly demonstrate the movement of consumers towards more naturally nutritious food with minimal ingredients,” added Ian Wilkinson, commercial director of Hunter & Gather.
The 100% Avocado Oil Mayonnaise (175g jar) is available in Waitrose stores nationwide from 20 October, at a RRP £4.00.
This follows the launch of a clean label porridge from Quaker Oats last month, as the demand for shorter ingredients lists continues.
