The food and drink giant has named a new chief executive for its coffee brand, Nespresso, following a year of leadership turbulence.

Alfonso Gonzalez Loeschen will take on the role of Nespresso CEO and become a member of the group executive board this November.

The move will see him step away from his current position as Nespresso’s North America lead, where he has served since January 2020.

During his time as the CEO of Nespresso’s North American business, covering the US, Canada and Mexico, he successfully led the expansion of the Nespresso Vertuo system to grow at a double-digit rate and gain market share.

Loeschen’s career at Nestlé spans 30 years, having started in 1992 as an assistant manager. During these three decades, he has held various leadership positions across a range of geographies and business operations, including Mexico, Puerto Rico and the US. Previous roles include the vice president of marketing for the beverage division of Nestlé USA, general manager for Nestlé in Puerto Rico, and Nespresso’s chief marketing officer.

The appointment follows Philipp Navratil’s recent move to the helm, after Laurent Freixe was fired over breaches to the company’s code of conduct. Navratil had previously been serving as CEO for Nespresso – a role he assumed in July 2024 – before being promoted to CEO earlier this month.

This change-up was quickly followed by Nestlé’s board of directors announcing the departure of Paul Bulcke as chairman.

According to the Financial Times, the senior shuffle prompted Nestlé investors to call for Bulcke to leave, with concerns expressed over instability and poor performance.

“We are happy to announce that Alfonso will become the new CEO of Nespresso and a member of the group executive board. We look forward to working with him to advance our growth strategy for Nespresso,” commented Philipp Navratil, CEO of Nestlé.

“His extensive expertise and deep understanding of the portioned coffee category, along with Alfonso’s results-focused approach and talent to inspire teams, will enable him to drive performance and execution.”
