Co-op recalls meat product due to allergen error

73% of Co-op members backed a motion calling the retailer to stop trading with Israel at the group's AGM in May.

Co-op is recalling a pork pie product because the label does not mention that the product contains milk.

Packs of ‘Co-op 4 Mini Pork & Pickle Pies 200g’ with a best before date of 13 August 2025, 14 August 2025 or 16 August 2025 are being recalled as the labelling error means the product poses a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

In addition to the recall, Co-op has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

The grocery retailer has also issued point-of-sale notices which will be displayed in stores that sell the product in question to alert consumers.

“For a refund or replacement (subject to availability) please visit your local store,” Co-op said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

In related news, it was announced last month that all of Co-op’s 6.5 million members had data stolen in a cyberattack on the grocery retailer earlier this year.

During an appearance on the BBC, Co-op chief executive Shirine Khoury-Haq confirmed that member data such as names, addresses and contact information was accessed by hackers during the attack.
