Scottish ice cream brand Equi’s Ice Cream has signed a deal to supply Sainsbury’s stores across the country, a milestone in the company’s expansion strategy.

The deal – which will see three of Equi’s Ice Cream’s best-selling flavours, Pistachio Swirl, Madagascan Vanilla, and Raspberry Ripple, available in 26 Sainsbury’s stores across Scotland – represents a key step for the company as it targets £6 million turnover by 2027, a 20% increase year-on-year.

In order to meet demand, Equi’s has increased production by implementing a nightshift to keep up with expected growth.

Supporting local suppliers

CEO David Equi said: “This partnership with Sainsbury’s is a huge moment for us. We have worked hard for generations to create ice cream that not only tastes incredible but also reflects our commitment to quality ingredients and supporting local Scottish suppliers.

“Having three of our most popular flavours listed in 25 of the biggest Sainsbury’s stores in Scotland is incredibly prestigious. We’re excited not only for the immediate opportunities of partnering with such a renowned retailer, but also for the long-term growth potential it brings.”

This collaboration with Sainsbury’s is the first time that Equi’s Ice Cream will be sold in the national supermarket chain, increasing brand exposure but also supporting the company’s aspirations to sell across the UK and internationally.

‘Scoop of the day’

Callum Nimmo, regional buyer for Sainsbury’s, said, “We’re thrilled to unveil Equi’s ice cream as the scoop of the day in our Scottish stores at Sainsbury’s. This partnership is a sweet reminder of our dedication to supporting local suppliers and delighting our customers with exceptional products.”

Equi’s Ice Cream is now available in seven major retailers across Scotland, and the brand’s presence continues to grow as they target additional listings, including plans for future expansion into England.

Meanwhile, Warrendale Wagyu has signed a long-term contract with Aldi to supply the supermarket with British wagyu, in a deal worth around £320 million over the next five years.
