Datekin is the first product range to be introduced by British start-up LAMA, which is on a mission to bring ‘fun and unique’ snacks from around the world to market.
The company offers snacking packs of pitted Sukkari dates hand-selected from Saudi Arabia. Sukkari dates have a natural caramel flavour, with Datekin describing them as ‘nature’s original sweet treat’
Datekin is priced at £1.49 per pack with extensive nationwide sampling campaigns already underway. The product is packed in the UK into home-compostable packaging.
The brand says it is also in talks with supermarkets and independent retailers, and is confident it will be on shelves soon.
Dates, which are derived from the date palm tree and popular in the Middle East and Eastern parts of the world, are associated with a range of health benefits, including improved digestion, brain function, bone strength and heart health.
Sukkari dates include essential nutrients and are packed full of vitamins, minerals, and fibre. According to LAMA, the slow-releasing carbohydrates and natural sugars found in the fruit provide a quick and sustainable energy boost too.
Liam Allen, brand marketing manager at LAMA added that these qualities make the snack, which is also vegan and gluten-free, a ‘guilt-free’ indulgence.
He added: “We’re proud to introduce Datekin to the snack market. Our dark golden Sukkari dates offer a naturally creamy, caramel flavour and chewy texture that differentiates them from other dates.
“We’re here to challenge the over-processed snack landscape and help people reconnect with what’s real. At Datekin, we believe in the superpower of simplicity.
“Our hand-selected dates are nature’s original sweet treat, reminding snackers that true satisfaction doesn’t need reinvention – it just needs to be rediscovered. We don’t believe in adding to what nature has already perfected. Our dates offer a unique taste which not currently in the marketplace that nourishes, fuels, and satisfies without compromise.”
