Family business Soanes Poultry has hired an operations quality manager following investment into a new laboratory and effluent treatment plant.

The Middleton on the Wolds based poultry business, which has been rearing and preparing chicken since 1947, has created a new role in its operations team to support its growing business.

Stania Peris has been named operations quality management and ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) technician, responsible for the new laboratory that comes as part of Soanes Poultry’s investment into a new effluent treatment plant.

Effluent (wastewater) consists of several contaminants which must be removed so the water is clean enough to return to the environment. If left untreated, it can damage the sewage infrastructure and pollute the wider environment.

In England and Wales, companies must adhere to strict regulations established in Section 118 of the Water Industry Act 1991 and have the wastewater company’s consent before discharging trade effluent into public sewers.

Businesses have the option to install on-site treatment or send it to a sewage treatment plant in their local area to manage.

Commenting on the new addition, Soanes Poultry’s operations manager, Simon Rodgers, said: “In the last few years, we have invested millions of pounds to produce award-winning chicken, but we need good people to continue to grow.

“I am confident that Stania will work well with the rest of our team to make a significant contribution to future growth.”

Peris has relocated from Manchester to take on the new role at Soanes Poultry, where she will assume responsibility for production specifications, label control, ETP testing and staff induction management.

“It’s an exciting time to join Soanes and I’m looking forward to supporting the ops team. My university studies have included an MSc in Food Science and Innovation and an MTech in Chemical Engineering so I’m looking forward to applying my knowledge in an operational setting,” Peris said.
