What is your area of focus / What certifications or qualifications are you working towards?
I am undertaking a Technical Degree Apprenticeship (currently working with the Quality Assurance team). My programme is the Food Industry Technical Professional Degree Apprenticeship, which includes a BSc (Hons) Food Science and Technology.
What inspired you to pursue an apprenticeship in food manufacturing?
I have previous experience in working with food through a part time job during college and have always been interested in how and why things work in certain ways. I enjoy working hands-on and finding solutions to issues that arise. I see the food industry as a stable and growing career path, so I can trust the skills I gain through this apprenticeship will be worthwhile through my development.

I found out about this apprenticeship through LinkedIn.
What are some of the key skills you’ve learned so far?
I’ve learned how to communicate with colleagues at much higher positions than me confidently and to not be afraid to raise my hand to ask a question when unsure. I have to remind myself that I’m still an apprentice, and that I’m not expected to know things 100% already, but to know how to hold myself accountable for things.
How has your mentor or trainer supported your growth?
My mentor has really supported me throughout my time at Greencore and we have catch ups every fortnight to see how I’m getting on. Couldn’t ask for more from them if I’m honest!
What has been the most rewarding part of your apprenticeship?
The most rewarding part of my apprenticeship so far has been the opportunity to work with people from across the company in many different projects and to network with colleagues all over the UK. I’ve built connections with many of these colleagues and they offer me support where and when I need it.
Where do you see yourself in five years within the food industry?
I don’t really know what specific section I’ll be in 5 years time as I’m wanting to gain experience and knowledge in different areas within Technical by then. But I know, from the opportunities I receive from Greencore, that I will be supported thoroughly.
