Supermarket chain Morrisons has announced plans to cut the price of thousands of products for participants in its loyalty card scheme.

Throughout September 2024, Morrisons is offering More Card holders discounts on more than 2,000 branded and essential items such as breakfast cereals, soft drinks, condiments, toddler food and sharing chocolate boxes.

The loyalty scheme offers will be signposted in-store and online, in addition to being highlighted through the Morrisons More app and via email.

Elsewhere, Morrisons has added more than 70 products to its Aldi and Lidl price match programme which launched in February of this year.

Products matched to Aldi and Lidl prices include broccoli, mince, cheese, potatoes and rice.

‘Value for customers remains our number one priority’

Commenting on the announcement, Morrisons group marketing director Alex Rogerson described it as the “single biggest” investment in loyalty and pricing for a number of years.

“Driving strong value for customers remains our number one priority and today we are getting the big bazooka out and slashing the prices on over 2,000 products for More Card customers,” Rogerson continued.

“Together with our Aldi and Lidl price match and our vast range of low everyday prices – we have thousands of products that not only offer outstanding value on brands and essential items our customers love – but also have the quality they've come to expect from us.”

Freezer temperature innovation

The move comes shortly after Morrisons became the first retailer to increase the temperature of its freezers from the industry standard -18°C to -15°C.

The decision was made in order to reduce its carbon emissions, save energy and cut costs, after research concluded that there is no significant change in product quality when frozen food is stored at -15°C.

Morrisons has taken the step in 10 stores across the UK and is currently formulating a plan ahead of increasing freezer temperatures by 3°C across all of its stores and throughout its frozen supply chain.
