Following the announcement of a review into its Tuxford & Tebbutt site in January 2024, the dairy manufacturer has been forced to shut down production of the Leicester-based creamery.

After several months of trying to secure a buyer, Arla has made the decision to cease production at Arla Melton Mowbray Creamery UK (known as Tuxford & Tebbutt locally).

The facility has been producing Stilton since 1780 and employs 60 people.

Commenting on the news last week (25 June) after employees were briefed on the outcome, Fran Ball, VP of production for Arla, said:

“Today Arla Foods has announced its proposal to cease production at Arla Melton Mowbray Creamery UK. This morning, we have spoken to our colleagues who are affected by these proposals and we are now entering in to a period of consultation with those colleagues.

“Our priority right now is to support our colleagues impacted during this challenging period.”

This news follows the farmer owned company’s pledge in May, to invest more than £300m into five of its UK sites.
