UK supplier JJ Foodservice has announced the acquisition of Gatelands Supplies Ltd for an undisclosed fee.

The London wholesaler specialises in supplying the Asian hospitality sector in the UK, with the acquisition part of a wider strategy at JJ Foodservice to expand its offerings to key segments within the hospitality industry.

With more than two decades of experience importing authentic Thai, Chinese and Japanese goods into the UK, Gatelands possesses a highly skilled team and a portfolio of around 300 Asian products.

Working from a base in Enfield, Gatelands offers Japanese eggplant, banana leaves, bao buns, gyoza, ramen, noodles and rice, plus exclusive items like Thai Food King Coconut Milk and Thai Majestic Jasmine Rice.

JJ Foodservice operates nationwide distribution and industry-leading e-commerce capabilities, while it currently serves more than 100,000 registered customers which include restaurants, pubs, takeaways, schools, hotels, local authorities and homes.

Also based in Enfield, JJ Foodservice expanded its services during Covid with the launch of JJ Home Essentials – a direct-to-consumer platform which has evolved into a diverse product range exceeding 700 lines.

Commenting on the move to acquire Gatelands, chief sales officer for JJ Foodservice Baris Kacar said: “By combining Gatelands' expertise with our distribution network, we're reinforcing our commitment to support the Asian restaurant sector.

"We're dedicated to continually growing our product range and increasing our knowledge and expertise through strategic acquisitions.”

Meanwhile, Kacar urged firms with the food and drink sector that might be interested in a potential collaboration with JJ Foodservice to get in touch.

Gatelands director Christopher Christofi added: “With over 35 years of experience in the hospitality sector, JJ Foodservice stands as a prominent industry leader. Strategically situated across 12 locations, its expanded infrastructure means our customers will benefit from local collection, fast deliveries, and an extensive product range.”
