US-based baking equipment manufacturer Bundy Baking Solutions has announced the death of its founder, Russ Bundy.

Bundy passed away on 5 April 2024 at the age of 92 and is survived by his wife of more than 52 years Elizabeth, in addition to his children Cheryl, Lora, Beth, Russell, Gilbert, William and Robert, 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Born on 2 July 1931 in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, he established Russell T. Bundy Associates, the precursor to Bundy Baking Solutions, in 1964 while still in his 30s and has since become a well-known figure within the industrial baking industry.

Today, the firm has a global presence and supplies bakers all over the world with specialist equipment.

In an obituary published on the Bundy Baking Solutions website, Bundy was described as “a loving soul with a big personality”.

The tribute continued: “He loved life, people and adventures. He never knew a stranger, and his generosity extended to every person with whom he interacted. He found reasons to celebrate life and delighted in bringing people together to celebrate – particularly his family and friends from the baking industry.

“Born with an innate ability to connect with people and an entrepreneurial spirit, Russ was always quick to extend a hand of friendship and accept new adventures. His authentic generosity of spirit, infectious enthusiasm for life, and unwavering dedication to his family and the baking industry will be his legacy. The cherished relationships he had with family, friends, bakers, industry colleagues and his team members alike, speak to the character of Russ and how he earned the love, respect and loyalty of those who knew him.”

Bundy was one of the inaugural inductees into the American Society of Baking’s 'Baking Hall of Fame' in 2007 and established the Bundy Baking Museum to collect and preserve the rich history of the baking industry.

A memorial service will be held on Friday 12 April from 11am at Central College Presbyterian Church in Westville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to The Central Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
