Morrisons has extended the recall of its ‘The Best Taleggio’ after Listeria monocytogenes was found in the product.

It was announced on 25 March 2024 that Morrisons had recalled taleggio packs with a best before date of 14 April 2024, but that precautionary action has now been updated to include all date codes up to and including 28 April 2024.

The product is sold in 200g packs and the retailer has issued point of sale notices.

Meanwhile, Asda also recalled its ‘ASDA Extra Special Taleggio’ because Listeria monocytogenes was found in some of the products. Sold in 200g packs, the recall was applied to packs with best before date of 14 April 2024.

It has not been revealed whether the two retailers share a taleggio supplier and whether this could lead to further recalls.

Anyone that has purchased the cheese with either retailer can return it for a full refund without a receipt being required.

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), ingesting a product contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can lead to symptoms similar to those caused by the flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

However, in certain cases, the infection can be more severe and lead to serious complications such as meningitis.

The FSA also advised that some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including people over the age of 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

In other news, Morrisons has opened a new on-site innovation centre for its Greenside fresh food manufacturing operation in Bradford.
