Dairy ingredients group Meadow Foods has forged a strategic partnership with Germany's Herza Schokolade enabling it to distribute Herza’s range of products to manufacturing customers in the UK.

Herza Schokolade, based in Hamburg, Germany, is a leading producer of functional chocolate and compounds for use in food manufacturing.  It makes functional chocolate and compound ingredients for use in ice cream, muesli, bake mixes, confections, desserts, snacks and dairy products.

Meadow Foods said Herza’s products complemented the existing range of inclusions offered by its subsidiary Nimbus Foods, which it acquired in 2019, allowing both businesses to extend their ranges and capabilities to UK customers.

Chocolate pieces such as chunks, shavings, leaves, micropieces, nuggets and chips as well as coated or compound versions, very often made bespoke for customers, are all part of Herza's portfolio. Products would continue to be manufactured in Germany, but would be distributed to UK customers through its network, according to Meadow Foods.

Samples offered from this spring

The UK ingredients business aims to offer samples of the new product range to customers from this spring and Herza products would be included in new product innovations that involved chocolate, it said. The addition of Herza’s ranges add to Nimbus Foods’ current specialities, including hard toffee, soft caramels and honeycomb, as well as biscuit, cereal and sugar inclusions.

“The partnership with Herza allows us to further extend our product ranges for customers," said Jack Hancock, chief commercial officer of Meadow Foods. "The new Herza range complements the products we currently offer through Nimbus Foods and provides our customers with greater convenience when buying, as well as offering exciting new product development and innovation opportunities.”

Meadow Foods operates four BRC AA accredited sites in Chester, Peterborough, Holme-on-Spalding Moor and Dolgellau. It makes value-added ingredients seven days a week for some of the UK’s best-known food manufacturers. The company recently grew its portfolio with the acquisition of Nimbus Foods and the investment in plant-based dairy alternatives.
