Heineken appoints new UK managing director
David Flochel joins the brewer as managing director effective January 2021 from European self-service retailer Selecta Group, where he spent the last four years as chief executive.
He boasts a long and significant history within the food and drink manufacturing industry, with a number of senior roles across Unilever and more recently regional president in Europe and North America of the Mars’ drinks division.
Commenting on his appointment, Flochel said: “It’s a great pleasure to be joining Heineken. Our portfolio of brands, our route to market strength, and our great people and culture are unique and very inspiring to me.
‘Emerge even stronger’
“I am looking forward to working closely with our teams, our suppliers, customers and partners. I am confident that together we will emerge even stronger.”
Flochel will take over from Simon Amor, who has served as interim managing director since the departure of David Forde in July 2020. Amor will return to his previous position of off trade director.
Søren Hagh, President Europe, HEINEKEN, said: “I’m delighted to be welcoming David to Heineken. He is a proven leader with a deep and diverse experience in consumer goods.
‘Great fit for Heineken’
“His authentic leadership style, customer centric approach and passion for developing talent are a great fit with Heineken as we continue our journey as Britain’s leading pubs, cider and beer business.
“I’d like to thank Simon Amor for his outstanding leadership as Interim Managing Director. I am sincerely grateful for his considerable contribution during the most challenging of times.”
Last month saw a number of appointments across the food and drink industry.
Ireland-based Kerry Group announced the appointment of Thomas Hahlin Ahlinder to the role of president and chief executive officer, Taste & Nutrition, Europe.
Meanwhile, US-based multinational General Mills appointed Victoria Cobos to lead its supply chain operations across northern Europe as supply chain director.
