Blaze tackled at Wrexham bakery
Upon arrival, a one-storey production area at Village Bakery’s Coed Aben Road site was found fully alight, which spread to an adjoining office block.
Commenting later in the day in a statement posted on the company's website, managing director Robin Jones reassured customers: "You may have seen on the news about a fire at one of our bakeries in Wrexham.
"Thankfully, all members of staff who were in the building at the time are safe and well. In cooperation with the fire service, we are working hard to assess the scale of the damage to the affected bakery which makes Welsh cakes and crumpets.
'Three other bakeries unaffected'
"Our three other bakeries are unaffected and working normally and we are doing our utmost to minimise disruption to supplies."
We will release more information as soon as it becomes available.
Eight appliances were sent to the scene, including three fire engines, an incident command unit and two aerial ladder platforms were putting water onto the fire from above.
The Fire and Rescue Service advised local residents to keep their doors and windows closed due to the large amount of smoke discharge over the local area and to avoid to immediate vicinity of the fire.
Members of the public took to social media site Twitter to share videos of the fire, with some showing plumes of smoke visible from miles away.

Earlier in the day, Jones said: “Our primary concern is the wellbeing of our staff and we are grateful that everybody at our Wrexham bakery is safe and well. That is due in no small part to the fact that our emergency procedures kicked in and worked effectively.
“When the blaze has been brought under control, we will assess the scale of the damage and do everything we can to assist the fire service to establish the cause.”
The company’s three other bakeries are working as normal, said Jones, and are working “exceptionally hard” to mitigate any disruption in supplies to our customers.
Meanwhile, six fire crews battled to put out a blaze that broke out at the Jordans Dorset Ryvita factory in Poole last week (14 August).
