From 18 August, the producer’s brand of free-from, instant porridges will be available in 513 of the retailer’s supermarkets, the biggest deal for the company since it launched in January 2018.
Commenting on the listing, founder Jacqueline Barleycorn (pictured) said: “When I started making my porridge at my kitchen table 18 months ago I never dreamt that it would end up on the supermarket shelves.
“It's hard to imagine that people up and down the country will now be able to get their hands on my products so easily from Sainsbury's, it's just amazing. I think we've entered the market at just the right time – people want all-natural and healthy food that's full of goodness but is quick to prepare – and our porridge ticks all those boxes.”
Three varieties stocked
Sainsbury’s will stock three of producer’s porridges: Strawberry & Peanut Butter, Red Berry & Pumpkin Seed and Blueberry & Banana. All varieties contain no added sugar, are dairy- and gluten-free and contain 100% natural ingredients.
The Great British Porridge Co’s deal with Sainsbury’s followed listings with upmarket retailers Harvey Nichols and Selfridges in May last year and health foods stockist Whole Foods Market.
Meanwhile, last week, healthy snack manufacturer Nim’s Fruit Crisps secured a supply deal with NHS Supply Chain, marking the producer’s first inroads into the foodservice sector.
The air-dried crisp manufacturer’s products will now feature in NHS Supply Chain’s cold beverages, confectionery and snacks framework, making them available for order by catering managers in every hospital in England.
