Frozen food retailer has appointed a new head of product development, as it continues to expand its own-label range.

David Lennox has been promoted from his previous position as development chef for the company, a role he has served in since joining Iceland in 2016.

His appointment followed the departure of the director of product development Neil Nugent, who has gone on to undertake consultancy for a range of companies. Nugent continues to work with Iceland as a consultant.

Developing the Iceland Kitchen range

Lennox will report to Andrew Staniland, trading director for frozen food at the retailer, and will focus on developing new lines for the Iceland Kitchen range of own-label frozen food.

Commenting on the appointment, joint managing director Nigel Broadhurst said: “I am delighted to report that David Lennox outshone all the very well-qualified external candidates we considered for the role of head of product development.

“He has made a very significant contribution to the successful development of our product range over the last three years, and I am sure that this will continue as he takes full control of the Iceland development kitchen.”

Meanwhile, Young’s Seafood has appointed former Seachill managing director Simon Smith as its new chief executive, following the company’s acquisition by pork processor Karro Food Group.
