Aldi, Asda, Tesco and Waitrose have all been forced to recall their own brand soy and soya sauce, after it was discovered they might have been contaminated with small pieces of glass.

The products had been imported into the UK by global supplier World Wise Foods.

Products on the recall included Aldi Asia Specialities Light Soy Sauce, Waitrose Cooks’ Ingredients Light Soya Sauce and Tesco Dark Soy Sauce. A full list of affected products and their best before dates can be found in the box below.

A notice form the Food Standards Agency warned consumers who might of bought the products to not consume them and instead return them to the store they were purchased from to receive a full refund. Each retailer also put out their own point of sale recall notices.

Undeclared allergens

The past week also saw Marks & Spencer (M&S) recall its M&S Louisiana BBQ Chicken Flatties, because they contained milk that was not declared on the label.

The presence of the ingredient in the product meant that it posed a possible health risk to consumers with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

M&S recalled 340g packs of the chicken products with the lot number 00093408. The affected products has the use by dates of up to and including 30 June 2018.

Consumers who might have an allergy or intolerance to milk were advised not to eat the Chicken Flatties and instead return them to their nearest M&S store to receive a full refund.

Customer safety

An M&S spokesman said: “Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Addo Food Group identified a faulty drive belt as the cause of a recall more than 50 of its chilled pastry products.

Investigations found that “abnormal wear” on a drive belt had caused the pastry to become contaminated, after a routine procedure found it contained metal.
