Cheshire-based distributor Direct Food Ingredients (DFI) boosted sales by 52% in 2015 thanks to an influx of new clients, and is now predicting a further 30% growth in 2016.

Sales grew to £13.7M on the back of investment in a number of areas of the business, including IT infrastructure, staff training, customer service, quality-assured processes and an expanded product range.

Functional foods

Founded by director Steve Loake in 1995, DFI specialises in functional foods, nutritional and sports ingredients, and vitamin and mineral premixes. It lists food, nutraceuticals and soft drinks companies among its customers.

“This month, we will be celebrating our 21st birthday and our substantial 2015 growth figures make for a double celebration,” Loake said.

‘Unprecedented growth’

“During 2015, we saw unprecedented growth with a major influx of new client accounts, significantly expanded orders from existing clients, and cross-referrals within existing accounts.

We also opened our US office and warehousing facility in Los Angeles.”
